Xolo Maridueña is officially returning to the DC cinematic universe, securing a role in the upcoming Superman sequel, *Man of Tomorrow*, under the restructured DC Studios banner.

Speaking to Variety, the actor explained that he had remained uncertain about the future of his superhero alter ego following the 2023 release of *Blue Beetle*. That uncertainty resolved when DC co-chief James Gunn reached out directly to discuss incorporating him into the next phase of the film slate.

"I was in Japan with my friends; nobody knew anything," Maridueña told Variety, describing himself as "the most humbled" after learning Gunn wanted him involved in the high-profile follow-up project.

The casting decision serves as a key bridge between previous DC releases and the fresh continuity being mapped out by Gunn and co-head Peter Safran. While multiple projects and character iterations from the prior regime were phased out during the executive transition, leadership has selectively retained certain talent.

Maridueña originally made the jump to studio tentpoles with *Blue Beetle* following his breakout run on *Cobra Kai*. Integrating his character into a flagship Superman property indicates that DC Studios intends to weave established younger heroes directly into its core narrative rather than isolating them in standalone silos.
