Microsoft's Xbox unit has agreed to publish Hideo Kojima's next action-espionage game, *Physint*, rescuing the project following an abrupt cancellation by Sony, as reported by GamesBeat.

The studio head revealed that PlayStation Studios unexpectedly pulled the plug on the production in mid-June. Kojima Productions spent the ensuing three months shopping the high-profile title across the industry before finalizing an agreement with Microsoft.

In statements shared on social channels and reported by GamesBeat, Kojima confirmed the split with his longtime collaborator. "As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the Physint project. Physint is an important project both to me personally and to Kojima Productions," Kojima said.

"Determined to keep the project alive, we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner," Kojima added, per GamesBeat. "In the course of seeking advice and pursuing negotiations with people across many fields, we found in Xbox a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again. Please rest assured that development of Physint, our genre-defining action-espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward."

The announcement drew quick reactions from Xbox leadership, with executives including Matthew Ball celebrating the agreement publicly on social media.

For Xbox, landing Kojima provides a high-profile creative win at a time when console manufacturers are facing macroeconomic headwinds. Under new Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma, the division has pivoted back toward securing major exclusive partnerships to bolster hardware appeal, walking back earlier multiplatform publishing strategies that had drawn pushback from core Xbox consumers.
