The Call of Duty video game franchise has generated more than $40 billion in lifetime revenue, Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma disclosed on social media, according to a report from GamesBeat.

The commercial milestone spans 24 years of releases since the property debuted with a World War II focus in 2003. Over that span, Activision has produced 23 mainline installments across consoles and PC, representing an average yield of roughly $1.7 billion per core entry.

The shooter series has also maintained broad global distribution. Activision previously reported that lifetime player counts have surpassed 400 million individuals, working out to an average audience of roughly 17.3 million players per mainline release.

"One of the most celebrated Call of Duty games in its 24-year history, and now $40B in lifetime franchise revenue," Sharma stated in remarks reported by GamesBeat. "An incredible milestone. Congrats to the Activision team. And to the players, thank you for being with us."

The financial disclosure arrives alongside a critical rebound for the property. Following last year's poorly received Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the newest release, Modern Warfare 4, secured an average Metacritic rating of 86 out of 100, representing the series' strongest review marks in several years.

For media strategists tracking interactive IP, the numbers illustrate why military action franchises remain among the most durable commercial engines in global entertainment. As Hollywood Tomorrow notes, reliable monetization at this scale continues to justify the heavy capital investment required to sustain annualized production pipelines.
