Trey Parker and Matt Stone have publicly addressed the prolonged development of their untitled live-action feature with Kendrick Lamar, taking ownership of the multi-year production hold-up.

In a statement shared with The Ankler and reported by Variety, the South Park co-creators acknowledged the shifting schedule for the project, which is backed by Paramount Pictures and Lamar's creative firm pgLang.

"We take full responsibility for the schedule delay of this movie," Parker and Stone stated, adding, "We apologize to our partners at pgLang and Paramount, and we appreciate" their collaboration, while noting that they "still believe in the project."

First announced in early 2022, the comedy script by Vernon Chatman follows a young Black man working as a historical reenactor who discovers that his white girlfriend's family once enslaved his ancestors. Parker signed on to direct the feature alongside producers Lamar, Dave Free, and Stone.

## Scheduling Pressures and Studio Commitments

The feature has weathered multiple calendar revisions, largely driven by the creators' dense workload across their signature animated series, streaming specials, and independent entertainment investments.

For Paramount, high-concept creator packages often present distinct development challenges when major talent juggles separate multimedia empires. Studio executives have nonetheless kept the high-profile satire in active development as pgLang expands its footprint in Hollywood narrative production.
