The Telegraph is restructuring its podcast portfolio around video production, ticketed live events and premium memberships, according to a report from Digiday.

The strategic overhaul follows the British publisher's acquisition by German media conglomerate Axel Springer. Media executives are increasingly seeking direct consumer connections as legacy traffic drivers like search algorithms and third-party social networks prove increasingly volatile.

Video distribution has emerged as the core engine of this transition. Across three daily news franchises, including "The Daily T," "Ukraine: The Latest," and "Iran: The Latest," the outlet now averages 2.4 million weekly views on YouTube.

## Shifting Beyond Audio

The publisher's pivot reflects broader consumption habits migrating to visual platforms. A company representative told Digiday that The Telegraph's overall podcast audience expanded 161 percent year over year, prompting leadership to prioritize video formats over audio-only feeds.

The outlet plans to leverage these video-first franchises to support off-platform revenue streams, including in-person programming and direct subscriber packages.

## Industry Context

For traditional print and digital newsrooms, the move highlights the growing necessity of building multi-format intellectual property. As referral traffic from search engines and social platforms deteriorates, legacy publishers are forced to operate more like production studios, turning flagship journalism into visual, monetizable brands with loyal subscriber followings.
