Resolution Games has rolled out its latest mixed reality project, Holochess, debuting the free-to-play tactical title on the Google Play Store to coincide with the retail launch of the Xreal Aura glasses, according to a report from GamesBeat.
The title adapts tabletop strategy for wearable spatial hardware, organizing gameplay around quick, five-minute 3v3 squad confrontations. Unlike conventional turn-based board games, Holochess uses a simultaneous combat structure where both participants execute tactical decisions at the exact same moment across a shifting digital battlefield.
Resolution Games founder and chief executive Tommy Palm framed the launch as part of a broader commitment to emerging wearable hardware ecosystems. "Spatial computing glasses represent an exciting next step in the evolution of immersive gaming, and we believe it's important to help shape that future by developing experiences for these devices from the very beginning," Palm said in a statement cited by GamesBeat.
Palm noted that the Stockholm-based studio has spent the past decade monitoring how new hardware platforms reshape player habits. "We're always exploring new ways to make games feel like a natural part of the world around us, and we're thrilled to continue that journey with the launch of Holochess alongside Xreal Aura," he added.
For the broader interactive entertainment sector, lightweight augmented and mixed reality glasses remain an unproven commercial frontier compared to dedicated virtual reality headsets. As Hollywood Tomorrow tracks the intersection of spatial computing and interactive software, early native releases like Holochess serve as key test cases for whether hardware makers can sustain active consumer ecosystems outside traditional gaming displays.
