Following Paramount's confirmation that Anne Hathaway will star alongside Tom Cruise in a sequel to *Days of Thunder*, original cast member Randy Quaid voiced sharp objections to the studio's casting direction.

In a series of posts on social platform X, Quaid attacked the casting decision, calling Hathaway a "leftist, woke, horrible choice" for a NASCAR-themed movie, according to reporting by TheWrap. Quaid claimed the motorsport's core audience leans conservative and would reject the selection.

Quaid, who portrayed team owner Tim Daland in the 1990 Tony Scott feature, argued that Cruise's former wife and original co-star Nicole Kidman should have reprised her role instead. Per TheWrap, Quaid stated that Kidman was the necessary casting choice to sell the project, writing, "The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole. That's the casting that would sell the idea."

The actor also questioned the development timeline of the new production. Quaid claimed the sequel is facing an accelerated schedule reminiscent of the original film, when editorial teams worked rotating shifts in post-production to hit delivery targets.

Legacy sequels anchored by Cruise have become top priorities for Paramount following the multibillion-dollar success of *Top Gun: Maverick*. Reopening the *Days of Thunder* property represents another attempt to modernize the actor's classic catalogue, though modernizing decade-old IP frequently involves balancing nostalgic callbacks against broader commercial casting requirements.

Paramount has not issued a statement regarding Quaid's remarks, and further details regarding the sequel's director, supporting cast and release window remain unannounced.
