Sega's flagship gaming property is expanding its physical collectible footprint. Trading card manufacturer Panini has unveiled a dedicated Sonic the Hedgehog trading card line, timed to mark the video game franchise's 35th anniversary, according to a report from The Toy Book.

The product line covers both vintage and contemporary eras of the long-running property. The card checklist features classic and modern character designs for core franchise figures, including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and antagonist Dr. Eggman.

Panini is adapting its familiar sports collectible structure to the gaming IP, incorporating tiered rarities and chase cards. Inserts announced for the release include sets titled Artistry in Motion, Eggman Empire, and Negative Space. The company is also including high-end parallels such as Color Blast, Kaboom!, Tie-Dye Prizms numbered to five, and one-of-one Black Prizm cards.

## Distribution and Packaging

According to The Toy Book, the collection will be sold at both mass-market retailers and specialty hobby shops. Distribution configurations feature six cards per pack, six packs per box, and 12 boxes per master case.

The licensing partnership highlights Sega's broader strategy to maximize ancillary revenue streams from its flagship character, capitalizing on momentum built through Paramount's theatrical film series and digital media extensions. As video game properties continue securing greater retail presence, publishers increasingly rely on specialized trading cards to capture both younger fans and adult nostalgia-driven collectors.
