Netflix is heading back to the American frontier with a straight-to-series order for a new television adaptation of "Lonesome Dove."
The streaming giant has set Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart to serve as co-showrunners on the project, according to reporting from Variety.
The iconic western narrative previously became a landmark television event in 1989, when CBS aired a four-part miniseries starring Robert Duvall. That production became a major ratings success and collected multiple Emmy and Golden Globe awards.
Kazan and Stuart are expanding their creative ties with the streamer on the project. The writing and producing duo is already attached as co-showrunners on Netflix's upcoming adaptation of John Steinbeck's "East of Eden."
## Frontier Ambitions
The greenlight underscores how major subscription streaming platforms continue to chase prestige literary IP, especially in the western space, where modern audiences have shown sustained demand across both broadcast and on-demand viewing.
Casting details, episode orders, and target production windows for the new "Lonesome Dove" series have not yet been announced.
