Meta is expanding the footprint of its AI initiatives by releasing open-source software designed to integrate its Muse AI assistant into custom, third-party consumer electronics.
According to a report from The Verge, the social media and technology giant published code that allows hobbyists and engineers to build physical devices running Muse. The company highlighted several early concepts, including running the assistant on color E Ink screens for scheduled alerts or feeding the agent directly to television screens via HDMI streaming dongles.
## Broadening Ambient Interfaces
The initiative represents an alternative approach to traditional consumer hardware rollouts. While Meta continues to pour billions into proprietary smart glasses and mixed-reality headsets, providing open access to Muse allows outside creators to test ambient AI interfaces at negligible manufacturing cost.
For entertainment executives and technology strategists tracking consumer habits, ambient home interfaces represent an emerging touchpoint. Hollywood Tomorrow notes that deploying customizable AI agents across household screens could alter how consumers interact with interactive media, organize viewing schedules, and engage with branded IP.
By open sourcing the foundational code, Meta effectively crowdsources hardware experimentation for Muse without taking on inventory risk. The strategy could accelerate developer adoption while positioning Meta's software layer at the center of everyday connected devices.
