Mexican production outfit Martfilms has officially partnered on director Mariana Rondón's latest cinematic project, "Looking for Sam," according to a report from Variety.

The upcoming title is structured as a docu-fiction hybrid that revisits the lead performers from Rondón's acclaimed 2013 drama "Bad Hair" ("Pelo Malo"), which earned the top Golden Shell award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.

Among the returning talent is Sam Lange, who originally portrayed the young protagonist in the Venezuelan drama. The new production traces the lives and changing realities of the actors more than a decade after the original film brought them international festival recognition.

## Festival Market Path

"Looking for Sam" is scheduled to pitch at San Sebastian's Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum, where producers will target regional financing and international distribution partners to complete the package.

Cross-border co-productions across Latin America remain critical for auteur-driven arthouse cinema facing tight domestic subsidy pools. Aligning with an established Mexican banner like Martfilms strengthens the project's financial footing as it seeks European backing on the festival circuit.
