A Nevada jury has convicted former Compton gang leader Duane "Keffe D" Davis of first-degree murder in connection with the 1996 drive-by shooting of hip-hop icon and actor Tupac Shakur.

The verdict, reported by Deadline, delivers a legal resolution to one of the most scrutinized homicides in modern entertainment history, almost 30 years after the fatal shooting occurred on the Las Vegas Strip.

Following the reading of the decision in court, Davis immediately signaled his intention to contest the outcome. "I would like to appeal this matter," Davis told the courtroom, as reported by Deadline. He will remain in custody while awaiting sentencing.

Shakur was shot several times on September 7, 1996, while riding in a car after attending a boxing match at the MGM Grand. The multi-platinum recording artist and star of films such as *Poetic Justice* and *Juice* died from his injuries six days later at age 25.

## A Decades-Long Industry Shadow

The conviction provides an unexpected conclusion to a case that has loomed over the music business for a generation. Shakur's death fueled decades of investigative journalism, true-crime documentaries, and enduring interest in his posthumously released catalog, making this legal outcome a historic milestone for hip-hop culture.
