John Cena has weighed in on the shifting production timeline at DC Studios, acknowledging that his streaming vehicle "Peacemaker" cannot command the sole focus of studio co-chair James Gunn.

Speaking on Josh Horowitz's "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, reported via Variety, the actor explained that he understands why the Max series is not Gunn's immediate priority when weighed against higher-value intellectual property across the DC portfolio.

Gunn created, wrote and served as showrunner on the first season of "Peacemaker," which spun out of his 2021 feature "The Suicide Squad." However, Gunn's appointment alongside Peter Safran to lead DC Studios in late 2022 expanded his remit, shifting primary creative attention toward flagship tentpoles such as "Superman."

For Warner Bros. Discovery, managing executive bandwidth remains a central operational hurdle. As Hollywood Tomorrow has tracked across major studio restructurings, filmmakers who double as studio chiefs face constant tradeoffs between boutique television follow-ups and high-stakes cinematic relaunches.

While additional installments of "Peacemaker" remain integrated into the new continuity, Gunn must balance television scripts against the broader architecture of the revamped DC Universe.

Cena took a pragmatic stance regarding the delay, indicating support for the studio's sequencing as Warner Bros. Discovery works to re-establish its core superhero assets in theaters first.
