Isaiah Washington Discloses Death of Wife Jenise Maria Garland

Actor Isaiah Washington has publicly shared that his wife, Jenise Maria Garland, died in June 2025 following a sudden medical emergency. The couple had been married for 29 years.

According to social media posts reported by Deadline, Garland collapsed unexpectedly on May 31, 2025, and passed away ten days later on June 9, 2025.

In his statement, Washington expressed the family's grief over the sudden loss, writing, "It came as a huge shock to me and our entire family."

Washington is best known to television audiences for his original series regular role as cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Preston Burke on ABC's long-running medical drama Grey's Anatomy. He later starred as Thelonious Jaha on The CW's science-fiction series The 100 and has appeared in dozens of film and television projects across a career spanning more than three decades.

For industry observers tracking veteran talent, Hollywood Tomorrow notes that Washington has increasingly bypassed traditional public relations machinery in recent years, opting instead to deliver significant personal and professional updates directly to audiences via digital platforms.
