Google has increased the retail price of its Google TV Streamer to $149, marking a $50 jump from its initial $99 launch figure, according to a report from The Verge.

The updated pricing is already live across the official Google Store and electronics retailer Best Buy. Meanwhile, online retailer Amazon initially continued to list the 4K hardware unit at its introductory $99 price point following the change.

## Shifting Market Position

The pricing revision arrives just weeks after Google brought the set-top box to market. The device was introduced as a higher-performance successor to the company's long-running Chromecast line, built to anchor living-room entertainment setups with dedicated smart home connectivity and updated processing power.

For the television and connected-device market, hardware pricing directly impacts a platform operator's ability to capture dominant home-screen real estate. By moving the price point to $149, Google is positioning the hardware closer to premium competitors such as the Apple TV 4K, stepping away from the budget segment dominated by entry-level sticks from Roku and Amazon.

Whether the substantial percentage increase will slow consumer adoption remains an open question, but the maneuver indicates Google is willing to prioritize hardware margins over aggressive, subsidized distribution.
