Seoul-based sales company Finecut has secured international distribution rights for "Guardians of the Video Game," an upcoming 3D animated feature film. The deal was struck ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival market, Variety reported.
The animated feature adapts the popular Naver Webtoon series created by Gasfard. Since its debut, the digital comic has accumulated more than 345 million views on the platform, building a large domestic and regional following.
Finecut will begin pitching the project to international buyers during the Toronto market, leveraging the underlying property's established digital footprint.
South Korean webtoons have become an essential IP pipeline for global screen adaptations, moving beyond live-action television into theatrical animation. For international distributors, digital comics offer pre-tested concepts with built-in youth demographics, lowering the risk profile for animated releases.
The move underscores ongoing market interest in monetizing web-native Korean properties across broader global film and licensing circuits.
