Doug Ellin, the creator of the HBO comedy series Entourage, has publicly condemned a new promotional campaign that reunites former cast members Jeremy Piven and Adrian Grenier.

The commercial, produced for Jake Paul's predictive sportsbook platform Betr, features Piven and Grenier reprising their respective characters as fast-talking agent Ari Gold and movie star Vincent Chase.

Ellin voiced his frustration on social media on Wednesday, describing the project as an unauthorized exploitation of his intellectual property, as reported by TheWrap. "I have zero positivity in watching things I busted my ass [off] on for years [be] turned into garbage," Ellin wrote on X. "Go create your own s--t. And if you need money ... Flip burgers. This is trash and theft. Period."

In the advertisement, Piven walks through an upscale house party, passing basketball players Lonzo and LiAngelo Ball before encountering Paul. After receiving an elevator pitch about the betting application, Piven approaches Grenier on a yacht in the backyard, securing his agreement to endorse the product.

Ellin stated that he was not consulted on the project and had no involvement in drafting or approving the commercial.

## IP Boundaries in Commercial Parody

The dispute highlights ongoing tensions regarding character rights and creator remuneration when talent reprise recognizable television personas for brand campaigns. While commercial parodies frequently navigate trademark grey areas, the direct use of signature character dynamics without the participation of original showrunners remains a persistent flashpoint across the industry.
