Craig Zobel has boarded the feature film adaptation of the comic book series *Something Is Killing the Children*, with Blumhouse backing the project.
According to a report by Deadline, Zobel is set to direct the movie based on the property created by writer James Tynion IV and artist Werther Dell'Edera. Jason Blum will produce the horror feature under his Blumhouse banner alongside Stephen Christy.
First published by Boom! Studios, the comic centers on a secluded town plagued by deadly, invisible monsters that prey on youth, and the mysterious arrival of Erica Slaughter, a specialized hunter who can see and destroy the creatures.
Zobel transitions to the project after a run of high-profile prestige television work. He directed the critically acclaimed HBO limited series *Mare of Easttown* and contributed to the platform's DC series *The Penguin*. In features, his credits include the 2020 social thriller *The Hunt* as well as indie dramas *Compliance* and *Great World of Sound*.
For Blumhouse, tapping a filmmaker known for grounded, atmospheric storytelling reflects a strategy to elevate comic book horror into premium theatrical territory. As Hollywood Tomorrow notes, locking down established independent IP remains a crucial growth vector for genre producers seeking fresh material with built-in fanbases.
Development on the feature is underway, with additional creative attachments and production timelines expected to follow.
