Adult Swim has slated the second season of its critically praised animated thriller "Common Side Effects" to premiere on Jan. 24, 2027, at 11 p.m. ET/PT, according to a report from TheWrap. Linear episodes will stream on HBO Max the day after their broadcast.
Co-creators Joe Bennett and Steve Hely revealed the scheduling details during a panel appearance at New York Comic Con. The project arrived on the network in February and built rapid momentum across the television awards circuit.
The narrative centers on Marshall, voiced by Dave King, a fungal researcher who discovers a miraculous mushroom capable of eradicating all human disease. His intent to distribute the organism, known as the Blue Angel, quickly puts him in the crosshairs of the DEA, federal authorities, and pharmaceutical conglomerates determined to bury the discovery.
The second season follows Marshall and his former laboratory partner Frances, voiced by Emily Pendergast, as they operate as fugitives attempting to deliver the panacea to the public while dodging capture. The voice cast also features Martha Kelly, Joseph Lee Anderson, and Mike Judge.
Judge and Greg Daniels, who previously partnered on "King of the Hill," serve as executive producers on the series. Bennett gained critical acclaim for creating the 2024 Emmy-winning animated series "Scavengers Reign," while Hely counts writing credits on "Veep," "30 Rock," and "The Office."
During its debut run, "Common Side Effects" collected a Peabody Award and four Annie Awards, alongside nominations for an Emmy and an Independent Spirit Award.
For Warner Bros. Discovery, the series reinforces the value of adult animation in linking linear cable audiences to streaming queues. As Hollywood Tomorrow tracks cable-to-streaming distribution pipelines, prestige animated projects that yield critical hardware while maintaining modest production budgets provide dependable utility across multi-platform release windows.
