CBS aired the series premiere of "Eternally Yours" on Thursday, introducing audiences to a supernatural domestic comedy that showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman first scripted more than a decade ago.
The half-hour comedy stars Allegra Edwards and Ed Weeks as Liz and Charles, a vampire couple whose marriage has spanned five centuries. While attempting to revitalize their romance in the modern era alongside their daughter Emma (Helen J Shen) and their extended coven, the premiere introduces a major complication when Emma brings home her new boyfriend, Max, played by Jaren Lewinson.
Although the parents initially consider feeding on Max, marking their first hunt in hundreds of years, they pull back upon discovering his relationship with their daughter. The conflict escalates when young coven member Mort (Tristan Michael Brown) accidentally causes Max's death during a display of telekinetic power. In an effort to save him, the family transforms Max into a vampire.
In remarks reported by TheWrap, co-creator Wiseman declined to detail the broader lore regarding how often the coven expands its ranks, explaining that he is "reluctant to answer anything that hasn't been established in the TV" series itself.
The ensemble also includes Rose Abdoo, rounding out the vampire family unit. Port and Wiseman, who oversee the hit broadcast comedy "Ghosts" for the network, developed the premise as an exploration of long-term partnership through a fantasy lens.
For CBS, leaning on the proven creative team behind "Ghosts" represents a continued investment in high-concept broadcast sitcoms. As Hollywood Tomorrow notes, linear networks increasingly look to quirky, genre-tinged comedies with broad family appeal to retain broadcast viewers who have otherwise migrated to streaming platforms.
