Busan Film Festival Unveils 14-Title Competition Lineup and Star Guests

The Busan International Film Festival has set its full programming roster, highlighted by a 14-title Competition section featuring new work from prominent international auteurs. The festival's overall slate represents its largest selection since 2019, Deadline reported.

Now in its second year as a formal category, the Competition strand will feature 12 world premieres among its 14 selected titles. The section includes new directorial efforts from Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi, Japan's Hirose Nanako, and Indonesian director Yosep Anggi Noen.

Alongside the competitive screenings, organizers confirmed a roster of notable international attendees. The guest list includes Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Majidi, and acclaimed Japanese animation director Rintaro.

## Market Impact

The programming expansion marks a critical step for Asia's premier autumn film showcase, which has steadily rebuilt its global industry presence following years of pandemic disruptions and organizational turnover.

By securing a mix of global award-season talent and premiering regional auteur cinema, Busan continues to solidify its role as the primary bridge between Asian distribution markets and Western festival circuits.
