Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is restructuring her core political team ahead of critical decisions regarding the 2028 election cycle, according to reporting by Axios. The high-profile progressive lawmaker is currently weighing whether to launch a presidential campaign or enter the race for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's seat, which also comes up in 2028.

The staff reorganization involves several notable departures. Longtime campaign manager and senior adviser Oliver Hidalgo-Wohlleben is scheduled to step down in September, with veteran aide Fiorella Bini stepping up as interim campaign manager this month. Creative director Tyler Evans, who guided media and visual efforts since 2021, also parted ways with the team earlier this summer.

## Returning Aides and Expanded Oversight

To fill the strategic void, Ocasio-Cortez has recruited familiar veterans back into her ranks. Aya Saed, who previously served as legislative director, returned this spring as deputy chief of staff in the House office alongside campaign advisory duties. Tanushri Shankar-Ross, who left the operation in 2023, has also returned as a senior adviser, an appointment first reported by Puck.

Concurrently, chief of staff Mike Casca has taken on a wider portfolio across the organization. Casca, 37, previously served as senior communications adviser on Senator Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential run and deputy chief of staff in Sanders' Senate office before joining Ocasio-Cortez in late 2023.

The staffing pivot highlights a transition point for one of the progressive movement's most recognizable brands. Shifting from a lean, insurgent media presence to a mature apparatus capable of executing a high-stakes statewide or national race requires seasoned operational leadership, making veteran campaign talent essential for her next political chapter.
