Aaron Sorkin is set to receive the Maverick Award at the upcoming Newport Beach Film Festival, where he will also participate in a live episode of The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast.
The tribute and recording session are scheduled for Oct. 17, recognizing the filmmaker's career spanning theater, television, and feature films.
Sorkin, who won an Academy Award for writing *The Social Network*, moved into directing with *Molly's Game* and later helmed *The Trial of the Chicago 7* and *Being the Ricardos*.
## Festival Circuit Strategy
Regional fall festivals have increasingly served as early platform stops for established industry figures, providing dedicated spaces for career retrospectives and creative discussions ahead of the winter awards push.
As Hollywood Tomorrow observes, honoring veteran filmmakers allows regional festivals to bolster their industry footprint while offering talent a focused venue to discuss their craft outside the crowded major market circuit.
Additional honorees and screening schedules for the Newport Beach event will be finalized closer to the opening dates.
