Indian actor, filmmaker and producer Aamir Khan will be honored with the Screen Icon Award at the upcoming 37th edition of the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), Variety reported.

The tribute will include a 25th-anniversary Special Presentation screening of the landmark 2001 sports drama "Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India." Director Ashutosh Gowariker is slated to attend the event alongside Khan to mark the milestone.

SGIFF has selected the South Korean thriller "The Assassin(s)," helmed by director Hur Jin-ho, as its opening night title, setting an East-meets-South Asia tone for the festival's lineup.

Khan's recognition underscores the enduring international footprint of his catalog, which helped open vast theatrical markets in East Asia, particularly China, to mainstream Indian cinema over the past two decades.

As Hollywood Tomorrow tracks the evolving circuit of Asian film festivals, SGIFF's programming strategy highlights a continued effort to blend high-profile regional prestige with commercial star power to draw international industry interest.

Further program details, competition slates and masterclasses for the 37th Singapore International Film Festival are expected in the coming weeks.
